  • DA wants to remove Mayor Dada Morero and the speaker, saying services have collapsed under them.
  • ActionSA says the DA caused the mess and now wants to act like they are fixing it.

ActionSA has accused the Democratic Alliance (DA) of trying to create more problems in Johannesburg by pushing to remove the mayor and speaker.

The party said the DA’s plan to table a motion of no confidence against Mayor Dada Morero and speaker Nobuhle Mthumbu is not about fixing the city but about playing politics.

“They keep changing mayors without a real plan. It doesn’t help residents — it just distracts them,” said ActionSA.

DA councillor Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku said on Wednesday that the party had officially submitted a motion of no confidence. If accepted, the motion will be voted on at the next council meeting, expected in two weeks.

Both Morero and Mthumbu have only been in their positions for eight months.

Kayser-Echeozonjoku said the mayor has failed to fix basic services and has allowed communities to suffer.

“His time in office has been full of mismanagement and no transparency,” she said.

She also accused the speaker of protecting the mayor instead of doing her job fairly.

“She has blocked proper debate and made it harder to hold the mayor responsible,” she said.

ActionSA’s Gauteng chairperson Funzi Ngobeni said the DA is trying to act like the hero, but they are the ones who caused the current problems.

He said the DA refused to work with other parties to save its own mayor, Mpho Phalatse, when she was in power.

“We offered to give up two of our three executive seats to bring in the Patriotic Alliance, but the DA said no. Their refusal helped the ANC take over the city,” he said.
