Woolworths has announced it will trial its new ‘after dark’ delivery service, in partnership with Uber Eats and Engen Quickshop.

The service will allow South African customers to order Woolworths products from select Woolworths Foodstops at Engen stations, using the Uber Eats app.

This new offering aims to extend delivery hours well beyond traditional times, with selected Woolworths items available for delivery until midnight.

Night owls looking for a late-night snack, or busy parents who’ve forgotten lunchbox supplies, now have a solution to their needs.

Currently, 24 Woolworths Foodstops across Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Western Cape are taking part in the service, with nine additional locations set to join by the end of March.

You can get woolies after dark deliveries in these Areas:

  • KwaZulu-Natal (KZN): Engen 45th, Engen Mitchell Park, Engen Fairway, Engen Illala Ridge, Engen Richards Bay, Engen Ballito, and Engen Malvern.
  • Western Cape: Engen on Orange, Engen Vineyard, Engen Paradyskloof, and Engen La Rochelle.
  • Gauteng: Engen Main Road (Bryanston), Engen Fairland, Engen William Nicol, Engen Edenburg, Engen Rivonia, Engen Woodlands, Engen Conrad, Engen Golden Harvest, Engen Willowcrest, Engen Kyalami Gardens, Engen Rembrandt Park, Engen Oxford Road, and Engen Summit Convenience.

Coming Soon

  • Western Cape: Engen Sea Point, Engen Meadowridge, Engen Sonnendal, Engen Settlers Way, and Engen Tyger Waterfront.
  • Gauteng: Engen Technopark, Engen Magalieskruin, and Engen Bakenkop.

To access the service, simply search for “Woolies” on the Uber Eats app.

Evangelos Morris, Head of Foodstops at Woolworths, said the service allows them to reach customers till midnight without compromising on their cold chain.

“A key differentiator in our on-demand delivery is our cold chain, and I’m delighted that Woolies ‘after dark’ will use the same, innovative technology found in Woolies Dash to ensure our customers enjoy quality.”

Cikida Gcali, General Manager for Grocery & Retail at Uber Eats, said, “Certain parts of the country have had access to Woolworths’ food on Uber Eats during smaller trials, and the demand was exceptional.”

As on-demand delivery continues to soar, speed has traditionally been the key focus.

However, this new partnership hints that offering more time could be the next big trend.  The group noted that nearly 20% of sales from participating Woolworths Foodstops come from Woolies ‘after dark’.

What late-night cravings would you order from Woolies after dark if you could get it delivered until midnight?
