The video of a content creator honouring her South African heritage has now officially entered the room of online criticism.
Earlier this week, Nara Smith, a content producer and model renowned for her controversial cooking videos once again had social media users talking.
This comes as she took to TikTok to showcase long loved family recipe which she claims was an integral part of her early childhood – pap.
In the short clip, she reflected on how her mother was the one who first introduced her to the dish, before guiding viewers through the cooking process.
“Growing up, my mom would make one South African dish over and over again… Lately, I’ve been missing my mom a lot and craving her cooking.”
While the clip initially got the thumbs-up from thousands of online followers, many of whom were surprised to witness her celebrate her local heritage, others have now begun raising eyebrows about the intent of the clip – some accusing her of wanting to copy the Water hitmaker Tyla.

During a recent interview with the renowned magazine, Vogue, Tyla had offered her international fans a step-by-step guide on how to cook the famous pap and wors (sausage).
The mother of three is no stranger to controversy, last year she was accused of using celebrity chef, Onezwa Mbola’s ideas in her content. This saw the two get involved in a legal dispute.
Taking to the comment section, some users could not help but feel that Onezwa was correct in assuming that Nara stole her content ideas.
One person commented: “Ongezwa was so right…”
While many others felt that Tyla was the source of inspiration for this video.
“Girl you had enough time to make this way before Tyla did on Vogue,” commented another user.
Meanwhile, not everyone was against Nara. Instead, some rushed to her defense.
“At this point, you all have a problem with everything she mentioned her mom used to make for her, where does Tya enter at this point? Stop watching her.”
