The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party says the letters calling for the removal of some of its members are fraudulent.
Two letters, addressed to MK Party president Jacob Zuma, have been circulating on social media, with its parliamentary leader John Hlophe’s signature. One letter called for Zuma to deal with his daughter, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla and national spokesperson, Nhlamulo Ndhlela – both members of Parliament (MPs).
The other letter called for Zuma to remove MK Party’s chief whip in Parliament, Colleen Makhubele, describing her as an autocratic leader. However, the party’s spokesperson claims Makhubele remains in her position.
During a TV interview with Newzroom Afrika, Ndhlela claimed Hlophe’s digital signature was fraudulently added to the letters. He claimed that the MK Party is in a stable position, despite the recent public squabbles.
BOLD CLAIMS MADE AGAINST MK PARTY MEMBERS
In the first letter, Ndhlela was accused of undermining the organisation, engaging in factional activities, and using insulting language. The letter also claimed that he is disrespectful and obstructive.
It called for Zuma to discipline Zuma-Sambudla for interrupting proceeding and causing chaos during a caucus meeting. Meanwhile, Makhubele was described as autocratic.
Congress of the People (COPE) added its voice to the allegations surrounding its former member, labelling her a “disaster” on X. Makhubele, later founded the South African Rainbow Alliance (SARA), was axed from the party in 2023.
COPE sent a warning to the MK Party, saying the party would “understand, at great pain and cost, why we expelled her”.
