Many South Africans are concerned that Eskommight implement load shedding without warning this week due to an incoming cold front affecting the country.
Last week, the South African Weather Service issued a warning regarding cold conditions expected in most regions. The Western Cape was among the first areas to feel the impact of the cold front on Monday.
The cold front is anticipated to reach the northern parts of the country by Wednesday, with temperatures expected to drop significantly.
This drop in temperatures (due to a cold front) could put pressure on the power grid, potentially forcing Eskom to implement load shedding.
On Wednesday, Eskom denied claims circulating online about the possibility of imminent load shedding.
“These reports are completely untrue. The power system is stable, and loadshedding has remained suspended since 22:00 on 15 May 2025. There are no planned outages of this scale.
Load shedding might return with cold front hitting SA
South Africans are not convinced that the power system is stable.
“Misinformation causes unnecessary alarm. Stay informed—trust only official Eskom updates on our official platforms,” the power utility said.
