Motorists across the Western Cape are being advised to drive with caution as adverse weather conditions disrupt major travel routes, including Chapman’s Peak Drive and Sir Lowry’s Pass.

Chapman’s Peak Drive was officially closed on Saturday, due to strong northwesterly winds.

The popular coastal route, renowned for its scenic views, is often closed during periods of high wind to ensure public safety.

No estimated reopening time has been provided, and drivers are encouraged to use alternative routes.

Dense mist

In addition, dense mist has severely reduced visibility along Sir Lowry’s Pass on the N2 highway, raising further concerns for commuter safety.

Weather forecasts for the region predict overcast skies, light rain, and strong gusts reaching up to 65km/h.

Daytime temperatures are expected to remain between 14-16 degrees Celsius.

Authorities are urging all road users to stay alert, reduce speed where necessary, and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of poor visibility and high winds.
