Cape Town has announced several 14-hour planned power outages in Green Point and Muizenberg to facilitate crucial high-voltage infrastructure upgrades. The city has apologised for the inconvenience and urged residents to take safety precautions during the supply interruptions.

Planned power outages across Green Point

The City of Cape Town will conduct a series of overnight power outages in Green Point on four consecutive Saturdays, beginning 17 May 2025 and ending 7 June. The electricity supply will be cut from 18:00 on Saturday until 8:00the following Sunday each weekend.

While the work is expected to remain within mapped boundaries, nearby areas could also experience the power outage.

Muizenberg residents are also affected

Muizenberg will undergo its planned outages from 31 May to 1 June and from 14 to 15 June, also lasting from 18:00 to 8:00. If unforeseen delays arise, the city has indicated alternative dates for the same maintenance.

The city explained, “It is important to note that the supply interruptions will primarily impact the area within the borders of the map, although other areas in close proximity may also be affected.”

Safety measures and communication

Due to the complex nature of the work, the city warned that power outages restoration times could be delayed.

“Our teams will work as quickly as possible to complete the work within the communicated times,” the city assured residents.

Residents have been advised to switch off appliances and inverters before the power is restored to prevent system overload and damage.

“The electricity supply could be restored at any time, and customers must please treat all electrical installations as live,” the city cautioned.

For updates, residents should monitor the City’s official communication channels or contact the Call Centre directly before logging any service requests.
