Bafana star set to leave Esperance, will Kaizer Chiefs pounce?

Bafana Bafana star Elias Mokwana could soon be looking for a new club, as his current team, Esperance, is reportedly in breach of contract.

Kaizer Chiefs may soon have another opportunity to sign the 25-year-old winger. Mokwana is expected to leave Esperance after just four months with the club.

The Bafana star made a notable move to Tunisia from Sekhukhune United in August for a reported fee of around R7 million. According to SABC Sport, Mokwana’s time in Tunisia may be short-lived due to the club’s failure to meet payment obligations to him.

He has already made five appearances for the Tunisian giants. Prior to his transfer to Esperance, Mokwana was linked with a move to the Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs. With the transfer window opening in just a few weeks, Amakhosi may seize this opportunity.

Mokwana’s attorney Kabelo Mashigo said there was a breach of contract which could lead to the departure of his client.

“Much of the issues are confidential,” he told SABC Sport.

“But I can confirm that the club is in breach of the agreement. We provided them with notice to rectify the breach. They have not complied, leaving the player with no option but to accept the repudiation. Elias is focusing on the call-up now and once that is done, we will consider the next step.”

Chiefs were interested in the Bafana star before his big move to North Africa. It remains to be seen if the 25-year-old will return to the PSL or resolve his contract with Esperance.
