Bafana Bafana boss Hugo Broos wants a shakeup at the national level and high-profile fixtures are on his agenda.

Broos calls for Bafana to play the big dogs

According to Soccer-Laduma, Bafana Bafana’s Belgian boss Hugo Broos wants the South African national side to contest friendly clashes with some of the planet’s largest footballing nations.

“The proposal from the coach (Broos) is already with the technical director. They are looking at it. He tendered the proposal even before he left for the holidays. I know some of the teams in the proposal are Brazil, Argentina, France and Egypt. There could be more but he wants these ones as priorities as they could give them (Bafana) good competition ahead of the AFCON in Morocco next year. That’s what the coach wants,” said one source to the same publication.

Another source suggested these friendlies could take place during June/July for Bafana.

“He (Broos) wants to test the team (Bafana) without Sundowns players, he wants tough opponents where he plays without Sundowns players and to see how the team could perform and that is why he has proposed that those games be played during that time. He wants the games between June and July and to see how they can perform without Sundowns’ players against difficult opposition,” said the source.

Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams wins big

On Monday night, Ronwen Williams was named the inter-club men’s player of the year as well as goalkeeper of the year at the CAF awards in Marrakesh, Morocco.

“Yeah, it’s an amazing achievement, I still get goosebumps just thinking about it. It’s such a surreal moment. Honestly speaking I’ve never even dreamt about being part of the conversation you know yet alone winning it,” Williams said.

“So, it’s a proud moment for me, it’s a proud moment for my family and all my loved ones that have been there through the journey with me, through the good and the bad times. I’m just proud of myself for not giving up when things were tough, I had to dig deep, I had to keep going and today I’m a champion in CAF and on the continent so yeah, proud moment.”
