ANC to take action against populist leaders over BELA Act

African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Fikile Mbalula says party leader President Cyril Ramaphosa will take action against members who were going around calling for the implementation of the Basic Education Laws Amendment(Bela) Act as though there is doubt within leadership.

Ramaphosa signed a proclamation for the full implementation of the Bela Act into operation from Friday, 20 December.

MBALULA ACCUSES ANC MEMBERS OF POPULISM OVER BELA ACT

During a media briefing on Saturday, 21 December, Mbalula said some members were going around preaching as though things wouldn’t happen.

“Even within our ranks, there were people who were just on top of their voices, BELA Act must be implemented. There is leadership in this country led by Ramaphosa of the ANC. Why would others speak sideways as though there is doubt about leadership that it won’t be provided?

“It is populist, and we will act against populism in the ranks of the ANC. We are observing it; it is not a plurality of ideas or intellectualism but populism. Why would any leader of the ANC not have confidence that matters of this nature are being handled and driven at a political level by the leadership of the ANC,” Mbalula asked.

ANC Gauteng chairperson Panyaza Lesufi and Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane are some of the party leaders who have urged Ramaphosa to implement the BELA Act.

DO YOU BELIEVE THE ANC LEADERS WHO URGED RAMAPHOSA TO IMPLEMENT BELA ACT WERE POPULIST?
