The countdown to the deadline for the SASSA card replacement has begun. Therefore, doing the necessary will ensure beneficiaries get their SASSA grant payments for April on time.

SASSA and Postbank released a joint statement on 17 March 2025 explaining what beneficiaries who miss the deadline should do.

Also, the statement clarified how the first payments for the new financial year will be done and how recipients can receive their grants. Here’s all you need to know.

BENEFICIARIES URGED TO SWITCH BEFORE SASSA GRANT PAYMENTS FOR APRIL

SASSA grant beneficiaries have been urged to use the time before the next scheduled payments for April to replace their cards.

“To prepare for the next grant payments that are scheduled for 3 to 5 April 2025, SASSA and Postbank encourage beneficiaries to make extra efforts to use the period between now and those payments dates to get their black cards. By doing that, beneficiaries will guarantee that their April 2025 grant payments are made with their cards.

“In fact, Postbank will continue to swap the gold card until the end of June 2025. This is when we believe we should have swapped all beneficiaries that bank with Postbank,” the statement read.

HOW TO RECEIVE SASSA GRANT PAYMENTS IF YOU HAVEN’T REPLACED YOUR CARD?

Beneficiaries who haven’t replaced their cards will still be able to receive their SASSA grant payments for April. According to the statement, those that haven’t made the switch will need to collect their grants at the Post Office.

“All social grant beneficiaries will continue to be paid, including all the social grant beneficiaries who have not been able to get their black cards.

“Social grant beneficiaries that are yet to replace their gold cards with Postbank black cards, can go withdraw their grant at their nearest Post Office.

“There are currently 543 Post Office branches countrywide that we are working with. All that one will need to make this withdrawal is their ID,” it stated.

WHO CAN USE THIS FORM OF PAYMENT?

However, this form of payment is restricted to the following grant recipients:

  • Those who still have SASSA gold cards
  • Asylum seekers
  • Postbank green Mzansi/blue cards holders

Those with black cards should use them at ATMs and retail stores. Black Card holders have been prohibited from getting their grant payments from the Post Office.

“They are urged to never try to collect their payments inside Post Office branches as they will not be provided with a service. Post Office branches will only provide cash withdrawals for those whose black cards are either lost or stolen,” the statement warned.

The two entities also reminded SASSA beneficiaries that Post Office payments “are an interim measure.” They also mentioned that card replacement will continue after 20 March.
