Alfred Motsi has announced his resignation from the EFF, citing the party’s poor provincial leadership as a factor in his departure. In the past few months, the party lost its high-profile members, including former national chairperson Dali Mpofu, former deputy president Floyd Shivambu and Mzwanele Manyi.
Other prominent figures who have left EFF are the party’s co-founder Fana Mokoena, ex-public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane and student command representative Kganki Mphahlele.
According to AfricanInsider, the party’s president, Julius Malema, expressed that disloyalty and factionalism will not be entertained as the party prepares for its third National People’s Assembly in Johannesburg next month.
He added that members should avoid behaviour that weakens the party’s integrity.
MOTSI’S HISTORY WITH THE EFF
Motsi helped found the EFF after serving as the provincial chairperson of the uMkhonto weSizwe party (MK) Military Veterans’ Association in the North West Province.
Briefly reported that Motsi talked about how many ex-MK soldiers were feeling discontent with the party and discussed the possibility of forming a new party, the EFF.
Briefly quoted:
“When Julius and Floyd were suspended, we approached them to be our leaders, and that was how we ended up with the EFF,” Motsi said.
After the formation of the EFF, Motsi was instrumental in the founding of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in 2013, significantly aiding the party’s electoral victories. Serving as the EFF’s first premier candidate in North West, he successfully guided the party to obtain five seats in the provincial legislature during the 2014 elections, according to newspanther.
NETIZENS REACT TO MOTSI’S DEPARTURE
South Africans couldn’t hold themselves back about Motsi’s departure and had a lot to say.
These were their reactions:
@Chipiyankandla said: “It’s all a game. This is politics.”
Karabo Krb Dikgale said: “Anyone who thinks this isn’t intentional is delusional. This is part of the plan to topple GNU. EFF and MK are merging to form one organisation gradually.”
@Wanda855669465 stated: “EFF is really collapsing, bathong. I can’t believe this.”
IS THE EFF REACHING ITS END?
The recent resignations of high-profile figures within the party highlight how poorly managing a political party can lead to its fallout.
According to the Daily Maverick, it is tempting to blame the MK party for the loss of the EFF’s members. However, this is not the main reason why the EFF is drastically losing its members one by one.
Malema is to blame. This was caused by him expelling EFF members for not bringing enough buses and supporters to the FNB Stadium when the party celebrated its tenth anniversary.
This decision resulted in the removal of approximately 10% of its public office-bearers (210 individuals).
Do you think the EFF will get its power back or it will dissolve?
