The case against the five men charged with the murder of rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes and his friend Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane has been postponed to 7 February 2025.

The five men returned to the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 29 November.

STATE ADDS CHARGES AGAINST AKA MURDER SUSPECTS

In February 2023, Forbes and Motsoane were shot and killed outside a restaurant on Florida Road, in Durban.

KwaZulu-Natal police confirmed that Forbes was the target while Motsoane’s murder was a coincidence. So far, seven suspects have been arrest. Five are detained in Durban while two are in Eswatini.

The men: Lindokuhle Thabani Mkhwanazi (30), Lindani Zenzele Ndimande (35), Siyanda Eddie Myeza (21), Mziwethemba Harvey Gwabeni (36) and Lindokuhle Lindo Ndimande (29), are charged with conspiracy to commit murder, murder (Forbes), murder (Motsoane), unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and five counts of attempted murder.

The state also added charges of money laundering.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson in KwaZulu-Natal Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said that following deliberations between the state and counsel for the accused, the case was remanded for the indictment on 7 February 2025.

Meanwhile, Malusi and Siyabonga Ndimande, the two brothers implicated in the murder of AKA who were arrested and detained in Eswatini are opposing their extradition to South Africa.

Following lengthy postponements, the Manzini Magistrates Court in Eswatini accepted South Africa’s extradition application and handed down the judgement on 16 August.

MORE ARRESTS IMMINENT

This week, KZN police commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi told the media that more people will be arrested in relation to the murder.

Mkhwanazi said the picture is unfolding behind the scenes and as they investigate, and it is very interesting what they are beginning to see.

“We are working closely with the NPA to ensure that all leads are followed. More arrests [are] expected, no stone will be left unturned,” he said.

“It’s been very interesting to witness the picture which has been unfolding in the background. No one will be spared once we find out the person behind the crime which shone a spotlight on our province,” he added.
