AKA’s murder case moves to the high court
Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and celebrity chef Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane were shot and killed outside a popular eatery on Florida Road, Durban, in February 2023.
Two years later, their families may be closer to justice as the accused are set to appear in the Durban High Court for trial in May.
The five suspects—Lindokuhle Thabani Mkhwanazi, Lindani Zenzele Ndimande, Siyanda Eddie Myeza, Mziwethemba Harvey Gwabeni, and Lindokuhle Lindo Ndimande—were recently served indictments in the Durban Magistrate’s Court. Their arrests in February 2024, exactly a year after the murders, marked a major development in the case.
KwaZulu-Natal provincial police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi previously stated that AKA had been followed from the airport before the fatal shooting, suggesting that Tibz was not the intended target.
The suspects face multiple charges, including murder, conspiracy to commit murder, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, five counts of attempted murder, and money laundering.
Two additional suspects, Siyabonga Gezani Ndimande and Malusi Dave Ndimande, are still in eSwatini, where they are fighting extradition.
With the trial scheduled to begin on May 8, the National Prosecuting Authority’s KwaZulu-Natal spokesperson, Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, confirmed that various legal applications might be submitted ahead of the proceedings, including a possible pre-trial conference.
