A very bad week for Julius Malema

It has been going from bad to worse for EFF founder Julius Malema, who received the resignation letters of two of the party’s Members of Parliament this week.

Not only are these senior party leaders leaving, but they are also implying that Malema’s style of leadership is destroying the EFF.

The EFF could have been in charge of four national departments had Malema accepted President Cyril Ramaphosa’s invitation for it to be part of the government of national unity.

Malema’s decision has split the party, and branch leaders, regional leaders and provincial leaders are jumping ship every week.

This week MPs Fana Mokoena, a renowned actor, and advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane, the disgraced former public protector, tendered their resignations as MPs and members of the EFF.

They sacrificed their annual R1.2-million salaries as they walked away from Malema’s tumbling house of cards.

It’s the latest development in a slow disintegration of Malema’s party that started when former EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu left in August to join former president Jacob Zuma’s Umkhonto Wesizwe ( MK) party.

On social media platforms, Mokoena took jabs at Malema, who recently complained that he felt betrayed.

“No one betrays you. People just choose themselves over you. Their world does not revolve around you. Betrayal is not a word.”

Malema has told EFF members to expect more members to leave the party to join Shivambu in the MK party.

He said some EFF leaders will leave if they do not get elected into important positions during the party elective conference in December.

Shivambu’s departure has left the position of deputy president vacant, and students at various university and college campuses have started calling for Mbuyiseni Ndlozi to be Malema’s deputy.

Malema has implied that Ndlozi is one of the senior leaders who supported Shivambu’s resignation.
