‘A lot of teams will target to spoil their ship’ – ex-Orlando Pirates trickster warns

Former Orlando Pirates winger Thabo Rakhale has given his thoughts on the Buccaneers’ chances of winning the league this season.

The 34-year-old says consistency will be key if the Sea Robbers are to win the Betway Premiership. Pirates currently top the log after seven matches but rivals Mamelodi Sundowns are just three points behind.

Under Jose Riveiro, Orlando Pirates have won five trophies in two seasons and have taken over as the new ‘cup kings’ of South African football.  The Soweto giants are looking to end their 12-year league title drought this season.

“I’m happy to see the team doing well, playing exciting football, and it’s even enjoyable to watch them,” Rakhale told FARPost.

Orlando Pirates have a chance to win league, says Rakhale

The ex-Pirates and Chippa United trickster says the Buccaneers would need to be consistent this season.

“I think consistency will play a huge role in terms of Pirates winning the league because so far, they are playing so well. A lot of teams will be targeting to spoil the ship they are sailing on. The chances of them winning the league are there, and though it will be difficult, I would personally love to see them lifting that trophy,” Rakhale added.

“I mean, with all the trophies they have won lately, it’s only fair for them to get the major one [league title]. I hope all goes well for them to clinch that.”

Orlando Pirates are in action on Wednesday evening against CR Belouizdad in their first match of the CAF Champions League group stages.
