Mamelodi Sundowns legend Hlompho Kekana believes Bongani Zungu might not fit into Kaizer Chiefs’ team currently.
The 31-year-old midfielder affectionately known as ‘Ben 10’ has been without a club since partying ways with Downs in June. He was linked with a move to Wydad Casablanca under Rulani Mokwena but nothing materialised.
Amakhosi were also reportedly interested in the former Bafana Bafana midfielder. Kaizer Chiefs might opt to bring in Zungu given their midfielders haven’t fired except for Mduduzi Shabalala. Eston Castillo is ruled out for the rest of the year while Yusuf Maart has been far from convincing in the middle of the park.
Zungu not what Kaizer Chiefs need, says Kekana
“Why here at home teams can’t sign a quality player like Bongani Zungu? I don’t know, but I am a bit worried when I look at a player of Bongani’s caliber struggling to find a team,” Kekana said on SoccerZone.
“I believe so many teams need him, there are a lot of teams that I believe need his experience.”
“I was going to say Kaizer Chiefs need him but after not having played for I think six months, I don’t think he would fit at Kaizer Chiefs at this moment.”
Kaizer Chiefs recently brought back Njabulo Bloem and maybe the Bafana midfielder might rediscover his form playing along Zungu. Kekana has a point that Ben 10 has not played a match in six months and might struggle at Amakhosi.
“There are teams he can go to, the likes of Polokwane City, and revive himself, I see Xola Mlambo hasn’t been playing for two years, he came back with Marumo Galants and he is trying to revive himself. I think Zungu needs to take that path and come back stronger,” Kekana added.
