A group of Zimbabweans in South Africa has sparked debate after a viral video showed one of its members calling on authorities to arrest and deport Zimbabweans back home before 31 March.
His plea follows a march held in South Africa by the organisation. The group is believed to be advocating for the repatriation of Zimbabweans.
A Call for Mass Deportations
In the video, the man, visibly emotional, can be heard pleading with South African law enforcement to take drastic action. “I call on South African police, please arrest every Zimbabwean, whether he or she has a passport or not… Arrest us, we need to go!” he declares.
He further criticises Zimbabweans who refuse to return home when urged to address the political and economic crises plaguing their country. They claim they are content with life in South Africa. “How about their kids?” he asks, urging South African immigration authorities to take action. He argues that Zimbabwe’s healthcare system is in shambles, citing the lack of medicine at Parirenyatwa Hospital, one of the country’s largest referral hospitals.
Connection to the Zimbabwe Protests
His remarks have sparked intense discussion, especially in light of the much-anticipated 31 March protests in Zimbabwe. Various opposition movements and civic organizations have been mobilizing citizens to take to the streets on this date. They are protesting against economic hardship, poor governance, and corruption.
The Countdown to 31 March protests
With just days before the 31 March protests, this viral video has intensified tensions. Mass protests loom in Zimbabwe as war veteran Blessed “Bombshell” Geza intensifies his calls for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to step down. Many see this moment as a turning point for the country.
Do you think the Zimbabwe protests will yield positive results?
