Social media was abuzz after a woman took to social media to share her recent experience after finding a dung beetle in a box of South African cereal.

The video, which was first shared on TikTok, has since gained thousands of comments and reactions since it dropped online.

THE LIVE BEETLE CEREAL INCIDENT

Taking to TikTok The Curvy Butterfly detailed how she came across a live dung beetle while making her son’s Bokomo cereal.

She revealed that she had found a lump that disappeared in the bowl when she made the cereal. However, she has it that she later discovered a live beetle in the cereal.

“I picked it up and put it on the spoon and walked, went away and asked my son to get ready again. [When I] came back and it was gone.”

“So I looked, and I found it, and I said, ‘Oh, this looks like a beetle’. Put it in a Ziploc bag. It started moving,” she said in the video.

However, she revealed that she had to call a paediatrician to ensure that her son would be fine since she had eaten some.

Against the now-viral, her followers were quick to flood her comments section with their own experiences while others tried to make sense of her claims.

However, one of her followers, @sunshinesparkles, revealed that she once had a similar incident, but not with the cereals mentioned.

She said, “I found a Christmas beetle in our coco pops and a closed packet.” Another user at @thandels questioned how the dung beetle would survive in a sealed package.

She asked, “How did it survive in there for so long? They need moisture to survive, which they’d ordinarily get from the manure they live in. Pronutro is dehydrated and then put in sealed plastic bags.”

‘SAFE’: BOKOMO REACTS TO LIVE BUNG BEETLE IN CEREAL INCIDENT

Against the damning claims, the popular Bokomo hasn’t allegedly openly stated the matter. However, the concerned mother did reveal that tests were done, and the batch was safe.

She posted, “Update: The Feedback is that their testing showed the batch is safe.” However, little is known apart from that.

After all, similar incidents have happened over the years, and South Africa hasn’t been spared from such bizarre incidents.

A few months ago, a woman discovered part of a rodent in her loaf of bread. Nombulelo Mkumla said she was later contacted by a man from Sasko who apologised for the incident.
