Multi-award-winning singer Tyla Laura Seethal magnanimously known as Tyla has graciously owned the year 2024 with her hard work and relentless dedication to the music industry.
The pretty girl from Joburg bagged multiple awards while breaking records and making history in the music industry.
The Push2Start hitmaker kicked off the year in a big way by becoming the youngest African artist to win a Grammy Award, clinching the inaugural Best African Music Performance award for her hit single Water.
Tyla broke into the industry with the same single, which later paved the way for success in the US and globally. The US-based singer’s self-titled debut album which was released this year in March garnered widespread rave notice leading to the album entering the top 25 in multiple countries including the US, UK and SA, with only five songs titled Truth or Dare, Butterflies, On and On, Water and a remix of Water featuring Travis Scott.
That was not enough, Tyla recently made history by becoming the first South African soloist to be in the Hot 100 in 55 years with Water. She also had an opportunity to perform her single on The Tonight Show which is spearheaded by Jimmy Fallon and The Bianca Show in Sweden.
The Truth or Dare singer recently clinched most awards at the 2024 BET Awards, where she gave Usher and Victoria Monet a run for their money and took home awards for Best New Artist and Best International Act.
Adding to her achievements this year, Tyla was honoured with a Global Force Award at the first Billboard R&B No. 1 and led the nominations at the 18th Metro FM Music Awards with six nominations.
As if that was not enough, Tyla won a Best Afrobeats Music Video Award at the MTV Music Video Awards in September 2024, in an award ceremony that took place in New York.
Recently, she won in three categories at the MTV European Music Awards (EMAs). Where she took home the Best R&B, Best Afrobeats and Best African Act awards. She graced the stage with her performance of Water and Push2Start.
According to IOL, Tyla wraps the year in style, with her debut album surpassing the likes of Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter where she accumulated a whooping 1 565 000 000 streams. And has recently partnered with the Stanley Cup.
