Orlando Pirates phenom Relebohile Mofokeng has been head and shoulders above the rest with his silky skills and veteran-like composure.
Following a breakout 2023/24 season, the 20-year-old has lived up to the hype with twenty-three goals and assists this season, including seven in eleven Champions League outings, highlighting his world-class potential.
A superstar in the making, Mofokeng has hardly put a foot wrong this campaign, seducing several foreign suitors, including Egyptian giants Zamalek FC, who had their R25.8 million bid rejected earlier this year.
Although a move never materialised, the offer should come as a warning sign to Orlando Pirates, who will undoubtedly have many giants of the game after his services. Other clubs linked with the starlet include Al Ahly, Barcelona, and Glasgow Rangers.
Broos predicts an exit
Amplifying the exit murmurs is Bafana boss Hugo Broos, who believes it will be Mofokeng’s last season with Orlando Pirates.
“Talking about Mofokeng, I just hope that he makes the right decisions. And that he is not going to a team where he won’t play,” Broos predicts.
“I see all the things around, Barcelona and Rangers and… (sighs) I’m a little bit afraid. I just hope that the people around make the choice of the best sportive solution and not the best financial solution.
“Okay, I think his parents want the best for him, that’s for sure. But there is another guy who wants to win a lot of money also, but that’s the problem. But ok, let’s hope, maybe I talked too soon about that.
“We’ll see. I think in June, Rele will not be a player of Orlando Pirates anymore, but a good choice is very important.”
Will Mofokeng leave Orlando Pirates in the offseason?
