Several local celebrities got engaged and/or exchanged vows and celebrated their unions this year. Here is a look at a few local celebrities who tied the knot in 2024.
Former Egoli star finds love at 51
After seven years of being single, the actress Dorette Potgieter decided in 2022 to open her heart to love again and she crossed paths with Hennie Karsten, an engineer from Namibia, at a mutual friend’s birthday party. According to Dorette, Hennie stole her heart when they first met.
The two got married in April this year at an intimate wedding held in Yzerfontein, a small town on the west coast. The wedding took place in a fancy five-bedroom house with only seven guests, including Hennie’s two children from his previous marriage and Dorette’s teenage daughter, Lia Luna Li.

Dorette has starred in many local TV series and movies including Binnelanders, Villa Rosa, Rhythm City, and Egoli.
No-frills occasion for Nianell and Kevin Lievaart
Another local celebrity who tied the knot in her 50s, is Nianell. The 53-year-old singer well-known for her song Who Painted the Moon Black, married Kevin Lievaart, an electrician, earlier this year in front of two witnesses and a marriage officiant. It was a simple ceremony at her house in Johannesburg without frills. She commented that they dressed up and decorated the house themselves for the occasion.

adventures together. We grow and learn together,’ said Nianell.
Springboks who got married in 2024
Springbok fullback Willie le Roux married his partner, Holly Clare Nichol, in February this year. The couple got engaged in June 2023.
Manie Libbok and his high school sweetheart Verna-Lee, tied the knot in October at a picturesque venue in Mossel Bay. The famous flyhalf, who also plays for the Stormers, took time off to enjoy his wedding day and honeymoon.
