Victoria Kjær Theilvig, who represented Denmark, was crowned the new Miss Universe at the finale of the pageant in Mexico City on Sunday 17 November. Here’s five things to know about Victoria Kjær Theilvig.

VICTORIA CROWNED MISS UNIVERSE

Miss Denmark Victoria Kjær Theilvig was crowned Miss Universe 2024 by outgoing Miss Universe Sheynnis Palacios on Sunday 17 November (SAST).

“No matter where you come from, no matter your past, you can always choose to turn it into your strengths. It will never define who you are. You just gotta keep fighting,” she said when asked “Miss Universe has inspired generations of women. What is your message to the women watching you right now?” in the finale round.

“I stand here today because I want to change, I want to make history, and that’s what I’m doing tonight. So, never give up, always believe in yourself and your dreams, and that is exactly what you’re going to do,” she continued.

Miss Nigeria Chidimma Adetshina was crowned the runner-up and Miss Mexico María Fernanda Beltrán Figueroa. Chidimma was in the Miss SA running until there was a controversy surrounding identity theft.  The beauty queen is facing criminal charges back “home” outlined by the Department of Home Affairs.

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT VICTORIA

Victoria made history as the first Danish Miss Universe. Business Insider reports that it’s been 61 years since a contestant from the country had placed in the top five of the competition. She is the first Danish contestant to take home the crown in the pageant’s 73-year history.

She runs her own jewellery business.

Victoria is a professional dancer.

The beauty queen is the first blond woman to be crowned Miss Universe in 20 years. The last blond Miss Universe was Jennifer Hawkins of Australia, crowned in 2004, as per US Weekly.

She is an animal rights and welfare advocate. After being crowned Miss Universe Denmark, she visited a Danish animal protection organization to raise awareness for neglected animals.
