Where to find the best braai deals this long weekend

South Africans preparing for a braai during this Human Rights weekend may have noticed a price hike in charcoal at some of the country’s major supermarkets.

A comparison of prices at Checkers, Shoprite, Pick n Pay and Woolworths reveals that while some stores have increased their prices, others have kept them unchanged.

At Checkers and Shoprite, a 4kg bag of charcoal has gone up from R75.99 to R79.99. Meanwhile, Pick n Pay and Woolworths have maintained their prices at R69.99 and R104.99, respectively.

This means Pick n Pay currently offers the most affordable charcoal option, while Woolworths remains the most expensive.

And in the unlikely event that you won’t be standing around a fire with your loved ones this long weekend, why not grab some tea at some of SA’s best supermarkets.

Each week, we visit the supermarkets so you don’t waste your time, effort and most importantly, money.
