A Kaizer Chiefs legend, Siphiwe Tshabalala scored arguably the most iconic goal in Bafana Bafana history.
During the opening game of South Africa’s 2010 World Cup, Tshabalala, otherwise known as Shabba, rifled the ball past Mexico’s Guillermo Ochoa, sending fans into mayhem.
That same year, he was declared South Africa’s footballer of the year having steered the Glamour Boys to Telkom Knockout glory before winning two successive PSL titles a few years later.
Tshabalala is one of the last Kaizer Chiefs players to lift up the trophy.
What is the former PSL champion doing now?
Following a late-career stint at AmaZulu FC, during which he made only two appearances, the dazzling winger retired at the age of 37.
Now the former Kaizer Chiefs star is taking his image to the next stage with several brand endorsements, telling Soccer Laduma, “I’m currently working with four or five brands now.”
“So it’s a great opportunity. There’s growth in that space, there’s longevity as well, and of course I won’t be lost to football. I owe football a lot. Football gave me everything and I’ll be forever grateful,” the two-time PSL winner added.
“I’m more involved in grassroots football through my foundation with a football tournament that runs annually between June and July. So that’s the space that I enjoy, but also it is a space where I want to equip myself with academic knowledge.
“I do also consider getting the coaching badges just to have an in-depth knowledge to impart from that perspective to the youth.”

Before taking his talents to Turkey’s Erzurumspor Futbol Kulübü he played 292 times for Kaizer Chiefs, scoring on 48 occasions.
On the international stage, the Soweto native accumulated 90 caps for Bafana Bafana and twelve goals.
