Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates battle twice in a week as the season reaches its climax. When is the Nedbank Cup final?

Soweto Derby dates: Kaizer Chiefs vs Orlando Pirates

As fate would have it, Pirates and Chiefs meet twice in quick succession at the sharp end of the 2024-2205 campaign. First, they do battle in the Betway Premiership on Saturday, 03 May at 15:00. Then, they meet in the Nedbank Cup final on Saturday, 10 May.

Mbokazi ruled out for Pirates

Breakout star Mbekezeli Mbokazi, now a firm fixture in the Orlando Pirates XI, will miss both meetings with Kaizer Chiefs. The 19-year-old central defender is part of the South African U20 side at the most inopportune time for Pirates, ruling him out of these two matches. The U20 AFCON takes place between 26 April and 18 May. Meanwhile, Chiefs star winger Mfundo Vilakazi will also be with the U20 AFCON group.

MTN8 race goes to the wire for Kaizer Chiefs

With the news of Royal AM’s expulsion from the PSL, all points collected against them have become null and void. As a result, the revised table sees Chiefs sit on 29 points after 23 games. Previously, they were on 30 points after 24 outings. Points mean more than games in hand at this stage of a campaign. Chippa and Golden Arrows both pose a serious threat to their ambitions of a top-eight finish; the Chilli Boys are now level on points with the Glamour Boys and have a game in hand on Nabi’s men. An imminent trip to Chippa on Saturday 19 April at 17:30 could be make or break. Defeat in this clash is unthinkable for Amakhosi fans.
