The Easter Weekend of 2025 is creeping up on us in South Africa. Crazy, just the other day it was New Year’s Eve. When do the holidays fall?

When is Easter Weekend 2025 in South Africa?

Easter in 2025 falls on Sunday, 20 April, meaning that Good Friday is on the 18th. If it’s not too late, try and draft a polite email to your boss, explaining why now is a good time for you to get away from the spreadsheets.

Cape Town hiking routes to check out on the Easter Weekend

If you’re lucky enough to get some time off during the Easter Weekend in Cape Town, why not get off the couch and go for a hike? Here are a few easy ones.

Lion’s Head

If you’re a Capetonian, then you’ve probably scaled Lion’s Head at least once this week. It’s no wonder that it’s a popular hiking route, given the sensational panoramic views. It’s also relatively easy, barring a little climb at the end, and only takes up a couple of hours of your time.

Kasteelpoort

Kasteelpoort is quickly becoming a firm favourite for families. It offers staggering views, and the start of the pipe track is just five minutes from the Cape Town CBD. The first three kilometres are flat, and then you ascend Table Mountain, sipping water from streams along the way. I mean…

Kirstenbosch Gardens into Skeleton Gorge

It doesn’t get much more iconic than the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Meet your mates at the tea room and explore the panoramic beauty that surrounds you. Explore everything that the gardens have to offer, including all of the indigenous flora & fauna, and then consider your next move on the mountain. You can also do this in reverse, starting on the seaboard side, peaking at Kasteelpoort and meandering down to the gardens via Nursery Ravine. Don’t get too distracted by the gorgeous views on your descent, though, because it’s steep and a little slippery.

Skeleton Gorge

If you feel like a proper hike from Kirstenbosch, tackle Skeleton Gorge. It’s doable for the whole family but certainly elevates the heart rate. At the top, you’re greeted by full dams and beach sand. It’s worth the effort.

No better feeling than getting out of the busier areas of the Cape Town Atlantic seaboard and hitting the trails. The Missing Link looks back on Lion’s Head and also offers elevated views of Victoria Road and Oudekraal. It’s stunning. The route starts in Therese Avenue, Camps Bay.

*Please be attentive on the mountain and only attempt hikes in groups.
