Gauteng and several other provinces are expected to experience wet and rainy weather this weekend, following a week of warm and sunny conditions.
The South African Weather Service has issued a yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms in the Northern Cape, Free State, North West, Gauteng, Mpumalanga, and Limpopo. Additionally, there are warnings of extreme fire danger in certain areas of the Western Cape and Northern Cape.
Weather Service predicts rain in Gauteng
Severe thunderstorms are anticipated in Gauteng this weekend as temperatures drop to the low 20s. The affected areas will include the eastern parts of Northern Cape, the western and southern regions of Free State, eastern and southwestern parts of North West, most areas of Gauteng, northwestern parts of Mpumalanga, and south-central parts of Limpopo.
On Friday, Pretoria is expected to reach a high of 27°C with overcast conditions. Johannesburg is predicted to peak at 25°C, with a 30% chance of rain. A 60% chance of thundershowers is predicted for Saturday and Sunday in Johannesburg and Pretoria.
The weather service have predicted a significant drop in temperatures in Gauteng from Saturday going into the week. Although a small chance of rain is expected next week, temperatures will remain cool with overcast conditions.
