Wen kant? Bongi Mbonambi seemingly shades England

Springbok Bongi Mbonambi – whose verbal “wit kant” clash with England captain Tom Curry made headlines last year – has seemingly shaded the rugby rivals after their victory on Saturday, 16 November.

South Africa beat the Red Roses 29-20 in Twickenham. The match marked the first time the countries faced off since Boks knocked out England in the World Cup semifinal in Paris last year.

SPRINGBOK BONGI MBONAMBI MOCKS ENGLAND?

In an Instagram post, Bongi Mbonambi shared a picture of a Springbok alongside an image of the South African flag. The post was set to South Africa’s “unofficial” national anthem, Sister Bethina.

The post had many followers under the post commenting “wen kant” or “winning side.””

The comment was in doubt in reference to the “wit kant” saga, in which the SA rugby star was accused of calling his British rugby rival a “white c**t” during a game.

Bongi later claimed his words had been lost in translation, as he had spoken in Afrikaans rather than English. World Rugby also cleared the incident.

Speaking to BBC Sport during the debacle, he said: “I think it is a very sad thing when you live in a first-world country [England] and you think the rest of the world speaks English.

He added: “People understood [in South Africa], but obviously their side was misunderstood.”

“But I have never racially swore at him.”

WHERE IS TOM CURRY?

While South Africans emerged victorious against England, Tom Curry was nowhere to be seen. The 27-year-old is currently nursing a hip injury after recently undergoing an extensive operation.

Before his injury, Tom told reporters that he was looking forward to playing the Springboks again.

Hinting at the “Kant-gate,”” he added: “I’ve said what I need to say. I think it’s unfortunate what has happened, but it is what it is.”

When asked if he would shake Bongi Mbonambi’s hand, Tom responded, “I’m not answering that.”
