Orlando Pirates fans were visibly unhappy with Evidence Makgopa following the team’s 1-0 defeat to Stellenbosch.
Devin Titus scored the only goal of the match, handing the Buccaneers their first defeat of the season. After winning their first seven league matches, Pirates fans were hoping for an eighth consecutive victory against Stellies at the Orlando Stadium.
Despite dominating the match, the Buccaneers were unable to find the target and ultimately succumbed to the team they had defeated in the MTN8 final two months earlier.
Makgopa fires blanks for Orlando Pirates
Jose Riveiro chose to start Evidence Makgopa as the striker, but the lanky forward failed to score, much to the frustration of fans. The 24-year-old Bafana player has scored four goals in seven games this season and has been preferred over Tshegofatso Mabasa.
After Sunday’s defeat, some fans expressed their anger towards the striker, suggesting he should sit on the bench for the next games. Another player who faced criticism was Patrick Maswanganyi.

@JosephKrobbie wrote: “Makgopa and Tito were terrible throughout the game, can’t blame the kids. They can’t carry us everyday.”
Pirates are back in action this weekend against Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League.
Who should start against Al Ahly between Makgopa and Mabasa?
