Wydad Casablanca head coach Rulani Mokwena was shocked by a rock-throwing incident following his side’s 2-2 draw with AS FAR on Thursday evening.
The 37-year-old coach accused the opposing supporters of throwing rocks towards his players. Things got heated after the match, with fans throwing objects into the field.
Mokwena, who joined Wydad Casablanca in July, condemned the fans’ behaviours during post-match conference. No injuries were reported following the incident.
“Football is not this (pointing to the stones) and Morocco is not this. This is one of the things that disappoints me, my players had to escape this, and this was thrown to the players,” Rulani Mokwena said.
“There’s a rivalry, we are rivals for sure and it’s played in that spirit and it’s sad for me to bring this (stones) here because someone has to do it because someone loses his life.
Rulani Mokwena under pressure in Morocco
“I’m told this is normal it cannot be normal that players play against an opponent that is very good and it’s a big club, it’s amazing club in an amazing country that is full of amazing people,” said the ex-Mamelodi Sundowns coach.
“I have received nothing but love but it makes me said that my players had to escape this. Okay, we are rivals not enemies, the spirit of football should not be around this,” he said as per iDiski Times.
Rulani Mokwena’s Wydad are next in action on Monday as they look to close down the gap on RS Berkane.
