Springboks captain Siya Kolisi has spoken out about the importance of men seeking therapy and opening up about their challenges.

SIYA KOLISI ON THE IMPORTANCE OF SEEKING THERAPY

Men have often been seen as strong figures in society, but they too experience pain and need therapy to cope with life’s challenges.

This perspective is shared by rugby player Siya Kolisi, who emphasised the significance of men addressing their mental health and seeking help when needed.

In an exclusive interview clip shared on X by @TimesSport, the father of four explained that the issue with men is that they face numerous struggles but tend to keep their feelings bottled up. In contrast, women are more open about their emotions.

“A lot of our problems stem from the fact that we, as men, are often messed up and don’t talk as much as women do. We don’t open up or speak out. We struggle to share those kinds of things,” he said.

KOLISI ON WANTING TO DO BETTER

Siya further explained that talking to a therapist is important for him as it allows him to ask meaningful questions.

“It helps me understand that I’m asking real questions because I want to be a better person. I want to be a better father. To do that, I need to know who I am,” he said.

SIYA AND RACHEL KOLISI’S DIVORCE DRAMA

Siya is going through a divorce, although he has not spoken openly about it. He often shares motivational messages and quotes from the Bible.

He and his wife, Rachel Kolisi, announced their separation in October 2024 through a statement.

“We wanted to share some important news with you. After much reflection and open conversations, we have mutually decided to end our marriage,” read the joint statement.

“This decision comes from a place of love, respect and understanding that this is the best path forward for both of us. While our relationship as a couple is changing, we remain great friends and committed partners in raising our children with the same love and care they’ve always known. We will continue working together on the foundation that means so much to us,” read the joint statement.
