Warning for LATE Easter 2025 SASSA Childcare Grants

Disbursed to millions of needy parents, those inline for Easter 2025 SASSA Childcare Grants next month will have to wait longer than usual. Three ‘core’ Easter 2025 SASSA Childcare Grants are paid monthly by the South African Social Security Agency. Child Support is the most plentiful, followed by Foster Child and Care Dependency, which is essentially disability of under 18s. Nevertheless, recipients awaiting Easter 2025 SASSA Childcare Grants should spend their money cautiously this month to make ends meet.

This is owing to a longer than usual gap between grant payments in April and May 2025. April 2025 SASSA Childcare grants were paid last week, on Friday 4 April. However, Easter 2025 SASSA Childcare Grants will only roll off on Thursday 8 May 2025. This represents a five-week cycle and is simply an unavoidable calendar anomaly that comes around every so often. Nevertheless, anyone unfamiliar with Easter 2025 SASSA Childcare Grants, who wants to apply for government supports, needs to know the following:

  • Only one parent may claim a grant per child (if married).
  • 13-million SASSA Child Support beneficiaries receive R560 each, making it the most expensive grant each month.  
  • If you register your newborn for Child Support as soon as possible from birth, all the way to their 18th birthday, that child’s household will earn in the region of R155 500.
  • To qualify for Easter 2025 SASSA Childcare Grants, your child must be under the age of 18 and pass all applicable eligibility tests.
  • SASSA Care Dependency pays R2 310 per month. But you require additional paperwork declaring a mentally or physically disabled child by a government-appointed doctor.
  • Foster Child care from SASSA pays out R1 250 if you are a court-appointed foster parent.

CHILD REGISTRATION WITH HOME AFFAIRS

All parents with newborns hoping to take advantage of Easter 2025 SASSA Childcare Grants need to register the birth with the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) as soon as possible. Because nothing can be done by the agency without a birth certificate and identity document. As always, the agency notes that applications may take up to three months to be processed, however, you will be back-paid to the date of application if successful.

After the DHA, visit SASSA’s Service Portal to make an appointment. Do so online before you visit a SASSA branch in-person. And be sure to bring the following documents with you:

  • Valid identity documents of both the applicant (child) and spouse (if married).
  • Proof of marital status (marriage, birth or death certificate of your spouse).
  • Official birth certificate and ID of the child you’re applying for support for.
  • Proof of income (of both you and your spouse).
  • An approved three-month bank statement (no more than three-months old).
  • Proof of address (a utility statement with your name on it that’s not more the three-months old).

Your finances must prove that you earn less than:

  • R8 800 per month if you’re married (R105 600 annually).
  • R4 400 per month if you’re single (R52 800 annually).

Note that there is no asset test portion the eligibility for Easter 2025 SASSA Childcare Grants.
