Meme Ditshego has died

South African actress Meme Ditshego passed away on Wednesday evening, 25 June 2025, at the age of 60.

She was celebrated for her iconic roles in shows such as Ga Re Dumele, The Coconuts, and most recently Cobrizi.

Ditshego’s death was confirmed by her agency, Eye Media Artists Talent Agent, in an emotional statement released on Thursday.

“It is with deep sorrow and reverence that we announce the passing of Meme Ditshego,  a beloved South African actress, legendary comedic talent, and a true veteran of our screen and stage,” the statement read. “She was a pioneer of performance — a woman whose vibrant spirit, sharp wit, and undeniable presence brought life to every role she played.”

With a career spanning decades, Ditshego became a household name through her portrayal of Josephine Ratau in the long-running SABC2 sitcom Ga Re Dumele, a role she held from 2010 to 2013.

She also won hearts in The Coconuts as Joyce Mlambo and recently appeared as Teresia’s mother in Cobrizi, a series that recently lost its lead actor, Presley Chweneyagae.

Fans and fellow actors flooded social media with tributes on Thursday, honouring Ditshego’s contribution to the arts.

Entertainment blog Actor Spaces shared a moving message.

“The heart of our industry mourns the loss of legendary Meme Ditshego. To speak of her work is to speak of truth. She carried our stories gently. She made us laugh thoughtfully and reminded us that performance is a form of love. Thank you Mme, for giving so generously, for showing us what it truly means to honour the craft. Rest In Power, Mme Meme Ditshego.”

Ditshego’s management has asked for privacy for the actress’ family during this difficult time, urging the public to allow them space to grieve.
