The festive season has once again been marred by closure of some Durban beaches preventing holidaymakers from enjoying their much-anticipated break. The Ray Nkonyeni Municipality issued a warning on social media on 23 December 2024 informing the public that Uvongo Beach and the Lagoon in Durban were closed.

According to the municipality’s statement, the detection of high levels of E. coli in the water led to the temporary closures. The Uvongo Beach, located on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, is one of the most popular in the coastal area. Find below other beaches to avoid as stated by the Ethekwini Municipality.
