UK to stop THIS type of visa for foreigners

If you wish to live and work in the UK under a care worker visa, you’re in for some bad news.

The UK government recently announced that they would be closing social care visas to new applications from abroad.

As reported by Travel News, a White Paper, which was released on 12 May, outlined a broad tightening of immigration rules, which will essentially suspend care worker visas going forward.

“For a transition period until 2028 we will permit visa extensions and in-country switching for those already here,” the UK government announced on its website.

Why are care work visas being phased out?

The phasing out of these care worker visas will basically be done to address labour shortages in the UK and to encourage domestic training and recruitment within the care sector. The new policy aims to reduce reliance on international recruitment and prioritise hiring individuals already in the UK.

Study visas will also be taking a hit, with limits placed on student recruitments as well as a one placed on length of time graduates can remain in the UK after their studies have been completed (18 months).

Other policies noted in the White Paper included raising the skill threshold for work visas to a graduate level or higher and increasing salary requirements.
