Former US President Barack Obama has once again shared his much-loved year-end list of favourites. This time, the highlight for South Africans is Tyla’s feature on his 2024 Favourite Music list.
BARACK OBAMA’S MUSIC LIST
The track Jump, a collaboration with Jamaican dancehall star Skillibeng and American rapper Gunna, earned its spot among Obama’s top 25 songs, according to Times Live.
“Here are my favourite songs from this year! Check them out if you’re looking to shake up your playlist,” Obama posted on social media.
The announcement caused a buzz, especially in South Africa, where Tyla continues to make waves internationally.

South Africans were thrilled to see one of their own represented in such a prestigious line-up.

Earlier this year, during the summer, he revealed that Bob Marley and The Wailers Them Belly Full (But We Hungry) had been on repeat.

Seeing artists like Tyla and Skillibeng featured shows how far our music has travelled,” said Cape Town-based music critic Kabelo Dlamini.

In addition to music, Obama shared his favourite movies and books for the year. His top films included Dune: Part Two, Conclave, and The Promised Land.
On the literary side, his favourites included The Anxious Generation by Jonathon Haidt and Growth by Daniel Susskind, according to USA Today.
The former president’s lists have become an annual tradition, sparking conversations worldwide.
