A car recall has been announced by Honda Motor Southern Africa and INEOS Automotive South Africa for some of its models, according to a statement issued by the National Consumer Commission (NCC) on 21 March 2025.

The car brands informed NCC of a recall of four models; three by Honda and one by INEOS. Find out below if your vehicle is one of the models that have been affected.

HONDA CAR RECALL

The NCC detailed in its statement the three Honda models that have been affected by the car recall and why.

“Honda Motor Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd notified the NCC that they were recalling the CIVIC 4 door, CIVIC TYPE R 5 door, and CR-V5 door.

“The recall follows the EPS Gear Box Worm Wheel Swelling Failure. According to the supplier, the steering gearbox could result in abnormal noise or dangerous sticking when turning the steering,” the statement read.

The year that these models in the car recall were made available for sale is between 2022 and 2025. Those affected have been urged to take their vehicles to the suppliers to have the parts replaced.

INEOS GRENADIER CAR RECALL

Another top car brand that has announced a car recall is INEOS. Their affected model is the INEOS Grenadier. It includes the M1 Passenger Station Wagon and the N1 Light Commercial vehicle double cab pick-up.

“INEOS Automotive South Africa informed the NCC that some consumers have reported door buttons remaining in the depressed position when a door is opened from the outside. This, according to the supplier, could cause the door not to fully close and latch as designed,” said the statement.

The places where the vehicles were made available has also been revealed. These are SMG INEOS Grenadier in Cape Town and KwaZulu-Natal, and SMH Group Johannesburg. Also, they were exported to Nigeria, Ghana, Botswana, Tanzania, Kenya, Senegal and Namibia. The vehicles in the car recall were made available for sale from 1 June 2023 onwards.

“Consumers with affected vehicles are urged to take their vehicles to their nearest or preferred dealerships or authorised repairers. To arrange an appointment to have the vehicles inspected and have all door button mechanisms replaced,” the statement concluded.
