Two Kaizer Chiefs teens making headlines for different reasons

Two of Kaizer Chiefs’ most exciting prospects are causing a big stir at the start of 2025. Here’s the latest.

Mbuthu flaunts Range Rover Sport

19-year-old Kaizer Chiefs winger Nkosana Mbuthu has caused a stir on Instagram with his latest posts driving an expensive Range Rover. It’s not clear whether the car belongs to him, but either way, commenters are coming out of the woodwork. The post has since been deleted/archived. Interesting.

Rookie winger Nkosana Mbuthu had a baptism of fire in Chiefs’ 4-0 pre-season friendly defeat to Yanga. However, Tunisian coach Nabi has justified his choice not to substitute the then-18-year-old after selecting him out of position at left-back. Mbuthu, a player with zero minutes of competitive football to his name, is the son of former Chiefs star Patrick ‘Ace’ Mbuthu.

Kaizer Chiefs prospect Timba goes on trial with Belgian club

19-year-old fullback Sifiso Timba is seen as a long-term replacement for Reeve Frosler and Dillan Solomons. However, Chiefs might lose the youngster to Europe.

“Yes, Sifiso [Timba] has gone to Belgium to join RWD Molenbeek on an assessment programme. He left on Thursday and will join them in Turkey where the team is currently on their mid-season training camp,” agent Steve Kapeluschnik told Soccer Laduma.

“This is a great opportunity for the boy to showcase his talent and win a move to Europe. This will not only help the club but also the country as well.

“He is still young and he has a lot to learn and gain while he is in Turkey. We just wish him all the best while on this journey and his stay there.”

Chiefs to miss out on Salum?

Long-standing attacking midfield target Feisal Salum could be staying in Tanzania. The 26-year-old’s current deal with Pyramids runs until 2026 so Chiefs would have to cough up a significant transfer fee to land the goal-scoring schemer. Azam’s spokesperson Hashim Ibwe has dangled a carrot in front of Chiefs by stating Salum still hasn’t signed a new deal with the club. Tanzanian league leaders Simba SC are thought to be interested in the player who bagged 19 goals from midfield last term.
