Two family members arrested for murder of Noem My Skollie actor

Cape Town police have made a dramatic breakthrough in their investigation into the murders of Noem My Skollie actor David Manuel and his friend, Alfonso Fisher.

The good friends were shot and killed in Gugulethu on the Cape Flats in October 2024 in an apparent hit involving family members.

Police have arrested two people linked to the double murder.

Life insurance policies

According to South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg: “The investigation revealed that life insurance policies were taken out by family members which was identified as a possible motive.

“On Tuesday, 12 November 2024, two suspects, a male and a female between 30 and 40, were arrested in connection with the murders.

“The suspects are expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on charges of murder and fraud on Thursday, 14 November 2024.

“Further arrests have not been ruled out.”

Won numerous awards

As reported by The South African website, Manuel played the role of a 28s prison gang leader Freddy Gums in the 2016 South African film film that took the nation by storm.

According to the Daily Voice he was allegedly assaulted by full-fledged gang members of the 28s, who did not appreciate Manuel’s portrayal of their members in scenes involving sexual relationships with men.

Manuel was also known for playing in Number 37 (2018), and danZ! (2017).

He won the Best Supporting Actor Award for his role as “Freddy Gums” and Noem My Skollie/Call Me Thief won Best Film Award at The African Film Festival – TAFF U.S.A. in July 2017.

Gugulethu Community police forum (CPF) spokesperson Linda Kabeni said they were extremely saddened by the loss of the actor.

The South African website extends its condolences to the family and friends of David Manuel and Alfonso Fisher.
