Truter on why Chiefs loanee Radebe hasn’t played at Richards Bay

Richards Bay FC head coach Brandon Truter has shed light on why Kaizer Chiefs loanee Sabelo Radebe has yet to see game time since joining the KZN club.

The 24-year-old midfielder made the switch down to the Zululand on the last day of the transfer window, penning a season-long loan deal with the Natal Rich Boyz.

While his move was intended to afford him playing opportunities before returning to Naturena to vie for a starting position, ‘Bibo’ is yet to feature for Richards Bay.

Truter explained that the club’s recent congested fixture schedule, has limited their ability to assess Radebe during training and gauge his readiness.

Nevertheless, he indicated that the Kaizer Chiefs DStv Diski Challenge graduate is now prepared to take to the field, as his fitness levels have significantly improved.

“I think Sabelo is ready to come in now,” said Truter. “His fitness level is good. He’s having game minutes now in our 11 versus 11 because our programme for the last three weeks was player recovery.

“There wasn’t time to fit in training or friendly games if you want to put it that way. So, we couldn’t really see him in a really competitive environment. I think that’s the only thing that’s missing from him as well.

“He’s been performing well, and he’s very close to being selected as well. But at the same time, [Tlakusani] Mthethwa and Moses [Mthembu], who play in that position, have been our key players in that midfield, and they are doing well.

“So, it’s about the opportunity coming along and giving it to him. He must just be patient for the opportunity, when it comes he must be ready.”

Richards Bay take on Magesi FC in the Carling Knockout Cup semi-final on Saturday, 9 November, at the King Zwelithini Stadium at 3PM.
