Kanas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes joked recently that he planned to gift team-mate Travis Kelce “acting lessons” for Christmas.
But the tight end is already venturing into his on-screen career, making an appearance in the first teaser trailer for Adam Sandler’s “Happy Gilmore 2,” the upcoming follow-up to the 1996 comedy hit.
Kelce, who is currently dating pop superstar Taylor Swift, has dabbled in TV since early in his NFL career.
He has the first line in the teaser trailer: “It’s great to see you back, Mr Gilmore,” he says, appearing to play an employee at a golf clubhouse.
Sandler revealed in August that Kelce would be part of the movie after the Kansas City Chiefs star publicly stated that he dreamt of appearing in the sequel, saying on his “New Heights” podcast that he’d do “anything” to earn even a small cameo.
Scheduled for release some time in 2025, “Happy Gilmore 2” is set to reunite Sandler’s colourful golfer with others from the 1996 original, while also featuring cameos from current professional golfers.
It will make its debut on Netflix.
Cast and crew
In addition to Adam Sandler as the title character Happy Gilmore, Christopher McDonald plays Shooter McGavin and Julie Bowen plays Virginia Venit.
Comedian Nick Swardson, actress Margaret Qualley, and rapper Bad Bunny are among the newcomers.
Kyle Newacheck is the film’s director, and Sandler and Tim Herlihy, a major collaborator on the first picture, co-wrote the script.
