In a shocking incident that has left the community of Tsema-Marhumbu in Bushbuckridge reeling, a ward councillor and another man were gunned down in broad daylight. The tragic event occurred on Saturday, leaving two victims dead and a third injured.
The provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, revealed that councillor Lot Nkuna, aged 55, was found inside the car, indicating that he may have been shot while seated in the driver’s seat.
The other victim, David Matsane, aged 52, was shot outside the vehicle. The preliminary investigation suggests that a hooded suspect approached the victims, only to return suddenly and open fire.
Upon examining the crime scene, authorities discovered seven spent 9mm cartridges and one live round. Paramedics were called to the scene but unfortunately, they could only certify the deaths of Nkuna and Matsane. The injured victim was rushed to a medical facility for treatment, and further details about their condition are yet to be revealed.
The motive behind this senseless act of violence remains unknown, and the investigation is still ongoing. The provincial commissioner of police in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, has expressed her condemnation of the incident and has assembled a team of experts to diligently investigate the matter.
“We are confident that the assailants will be apprehended and brought to justice swiftly,” stated Lieutenant General Manamela. She also extended her well wishes to the injured victim, hoping for a speedy recovery.
