Tom Cruise returned to the Cannes Film Festival with the world premiere of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. The film received a thunderous 7½-minute standing ovation.
The applause only ceased when the cast and crew took their leave after heartfelt speeches. This marked a triumphant moment for the nearly 30-year-old franchise.
TOM CRUISE AT CANNES
The premiere was a grand affair, opening with a live 40-piece orchestra playing the iconic Mission: Impossible theme.
Tom Cruise walked the red carpet to rapturous cheers. In a rare breach of Cannes protocol, the cast snapped a selfie on the steps, capturing the joyous atmosphere, according to Deadline.
Tom Cruise, visibly moved by the reception, addressed the audience with gratitude. “I’m just very grateful, very grateful for 30 years to be able to entertain you with this franchise,” he said.
THE MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE FRANCHISE
He singled out McQuarrie, praising his “absolute care” and talent for expanding the series beyond expectations.
“It’s been a real privilege, a real pleasure, and I look forward to making a bunch of other kinds of movies with you,” Tom Cruise added.
He then thanked the audience for their unwavering support. “We just want to thank you all. Thank you so much for everything, for allowing us to entertain you. It’s very special”.
THE CAST AND CREW
McQuarrie echoed these sentiments, highlighting the resilience of the cast and crew who completed the film amid the challenges of a pandemic and industry strikes.
“Their faith, dedication, and unquestioning devotion made it possible. This is the most extraordinary cast in the world,” he said.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning continues the saga of Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt, following the cliffhanger ending of 2023’s Dead Reckoning.
