TROY MALANGE WEARS OTIZ SELFO TO SA FASHION WEEK

You may know Troy Malange from the detailed, and hilarious stories about his sister “wa le 2k” and his neighbour’s son. His knack for storytelling caught the attention of 266 300 followers on TikTok and another 56 000 on Instagram.

The South African ran into Troy at SA Fashion Week, which took place at Melrose Arch in Gauteng from Thursday 26 September to Saturday 28 September. The TikTok star donned an outfit by local designer, Otiz Selfo.

Troy revealed that Otiz Selfo is a high-end fashion designer and he loves how he takes simple styling and turns it into classic pieces.

“He is a local designer, he does men’s and ladieswear. And this one is very glamorous, very high-end, very cutesy,” he said exclusively to The South African about his outfit.

“I love the fact that he takes simple styling, like a classic piece like this, double-breasted jacket, and embellishes it, what you wouldn’t necessarily think off as a masculine piece. But at the end of the day because of the cut and the fit, it ends up looking very masculine and still very elegant,” he continued.

Troy, who is also a fashion lecturer, revealed that one of the designer’s he most excited for this season was Rebirth.

“Definitely Rebirth, she went to UJ (University of Johannesburg), she’s a very good designer,” he said.

He went on to say that he was hoping to see the decolonisation of fashion in this season, which was the Autumn/Winter 2025 collection (AW25).

“I’m hoping to see decolonisation of styling and of fashion. So, I’d like to see mostly African essence and elements coming through, it will be very exciting. I’d like to see an African take, and most important a South African take, because we have beautiful cultures, and a beautiful mix of people,” he continued.

Speaking on the diversity in SA Fashion Week, Troy thought the designers did an amazing job from models of all ages, sizes and more.

“I think they did an amazing job. Most cases you hear people complaining about not having a representation of this and that, they did a great job,” he continued.

He went on to add that he was also looking forward to Thando Mangaliso’s Sun Goddess brand take to the runway. Take a look at our exclusive interview with Thando here.
