Zhang Yiming, the low-profile cofounder of ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, became China’s richest person in March. He overtook bottled water magnate Zhong Shanshan after ByteDance bought back shares in a deal that boosted Zhang’s fortune to an estimated $65.5 billion.
