  • MK Party’s Arthur Zwane was fired after being photographed shaking hands with ANC KZN secretary Bheki Mtolo at the Oyster Box Hotel.
  • Zwane has had a rocky time in the party, being removed twice and facing accusations of being a spy before disappearing from public view.

Former president Jacob Zuma fired his party’s secretary general after someone took a picture of him shaking hands with an ANC leader at a luxury hotel.

Scrolla.Africa has learned that Arthur Zwane lost his job after being spotted with ANC KZN secretary Bheki Mtolo at the Oyster Box Hotel in uMhlanga.

“Zwane told us that he will never forget the way Zuma fired him. He said he was just waiting for someone when Mtolo and other ANC leaders saw him. They shook hands and laughed since they go way back in the ANC. Someone took a picture and sent it to Zuma,” a source said.

The MK Party’s website claims Zwane was fired for “internal conflicts and allegations of mismanagement” just two weeks after getting the job.

When Zwane first joined the MK Party, some members accused him on WhatsApp groups of being former ANC treasurer Zweli Mkhize’s spy.

Others blamed him for ruining talks between the IFP and Zuma about working together in KwaZulu-Natal after the elections.

He was first removed after a Limpopo meeting, saying he wanted to focus on business. He then came back to replace Dr Sifiso Maseko, only to be fired again, with Maseko returning. Now Floyd Shivambu has replaced Maseko who stepped down on Sunday.

Zwane has disappeared since being fired. He doesn’t answer his phone but posts pictures on social media taken at restaurants.

MK Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndlela couldn’t be reached for comment.
