South African motorists are urged to prepare for a road closure that will occur on the N3 northbound on Saturday between 9:00 to 15:00 for 10 minutes every hour, reported The Witness on 2 April 2025.
It will occur between the Market Road interchange and the New England interchange.
REASON FOR THE ROAD CONSTRUCTION
The road construction is due to the cutting down of trees in the area and clearing of any debris on the road.
The alternative road for the time being will be the R103, however, there might be delays.
Sanral’s Eastern Region Specialist Geometrics Engineer Jason Lowe said that the closure may be adjusted if there are bad weather conditions.
“Motorists are urged to remain patient during disruptions caused by the construction and are advised to plan and adjust their routes while adhering to speed limits,” urged Lowe.
N2 IN THE NORTH COAST UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Construction work has begun at the N2 interchange at Sheffield, North Coast. According to The Citizen, the interchange, costing R110 million, will seek to lower the traffic congestion on the Salt Rock interchange.
The launch was held at Manor House on Tuesday, 1 April 2025 where Collins Residential MD Geoff Perkins emphasised how this interchange will positively change the Sheffield area.
He said, “This interchange has been a much-needed development for the Sheffield area and its estates.”
“It will unlock a new commercial zone, creating jobs and fostering economic growth. It’s a significant step forward for the North Coast community.”
The mayor of KwaDukuza Municipality Ali Ngidi also highlighted the positive outcomes that this project will bring in terms of economy.
“With enhanced accessibility, we anticipate increased demand for housing and business development, further strengthening our local economy. Improved transport links will also boost tourism, making the North Coast even more attractive to visitors,” said Ngidi.
The construction will continue for approximately 12 months.
