Tanzanian midfielder Feisal Salum’s buyout clause stuns Kaizer Chiefs and other potential buyers.

Despite initially insisting that star midfielder Feisal Salum was not for sale, Tanzanian club Azam FC has now clarified its stance. According to Soccer Laduma, any team willing to meet the buyout clause in his contract can secure his signature.

R183 Million price tag for foreign clubs

Azam FC’s media officer, Hasheem Ibwe, disclosed in an interview that Salum’s buyout clause for international teams stands at a staggering R183 million. For local clubs within Tanzania, the price drops significantly to R45.6 million (USD $2.5 million).

“When we say he is not for sale, we mean he is not on the market because he still has a running contract with the team,” Ibwe explained. “But if any team approaches Azam FC with the interest to trigger the buyout clause, then that won’t be a problem.”

Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns’ offers fall short

Previously, Kaizer Chiefs showed interest in Salum, offering around R15 million, while Mamelodi Sundowns reportedly proposed a bid closer to R35 million. However, these offers fall drastically short of Azam FC’s valuation, making it more likely that only European or Middle Eastern clubs could afford the talented midfielder.

Ibwe emphasized that Azam FC remains firm on its asking price but remains open to discussions.

“This is football. You know how football works. If a team shows interest and we tell them how much we want, then we can start talking,” he said. “We know there are very few clubs willing to pay that amount. That’s what makes him not for sale. That’s our stand.”

Will South African Giants Back Down?

With such a hefty price tag, the big question remains: Will Kaizer Chiefs or Sundowns return to the negotiation table, or will they shift their focus elsewhere? Alternatively, South African clubs on a tighter budget might wait in hopes that Salum’s price drops in the future.

For now, Feisal Salum remains one of the most valuable midfielders in African football, and it remains to be seen if any club will take the financial leap to secure his services.
