The City of Cape Town has resumed its major upgrade project to rehabilitate and revitalise the Table View beachfront.
The R100 million project, which began in 2022, has faced some major challenges in 2024.
According to the City, the contractor’s agreement with them was terminated in November 2024 due to ongoing performance issues and failure to meet construction milestones. Since then, the City has put reliable contractors in place, with clear timelines for the beachfront project establised.
Table View beachfront upgrades: What’s to be done?
The City has said that work on the new beachfront walkway, parking areas as well as infrastructure refurbishment has now officially recommenced.
“I am excited to hear that this vital and much anticipated upgrade project is moving forward again. We aim to enhance the area’s natural assets, public amenities and coastal infrastructure to cater to the thousands who use and enjoy this beautiful space.” the City’s Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Alderman Eddie Andrews said.
“I want to thank the local residents, businesses in the surrounding area and visitors for their patience and support. We understand the frustration caused by the delays. With reliable contractors now in place and clear timelines established, we are confident that the project is firmly back on track to completion. The public should begin to see significant progress on the various sites this month. The work will be visible, and every effort is being made to complete the work efficiently.” Alderman Andrews also added.

Can you still visit the beach?
The City has said that the public will still have access to the Table View beach, even while construction progresses. However, areas under construction will be closed off for safety, with the necessary pedestrian or vehicle traffic diversions implemented.
To ensure less disruption, the beachfront project will also be carried out in phases, with efforts made to reduce the impact on residents and visitors as much as possible.
